Role Overview
ISS Recruitment is working with a leading client in the arboricultural and infrastructure sector to recruit an experienced Machine Operator. This role involves operating specialist plant and machinery for tree felling, vegetation clearance, and associated groundwork activities across regional sites.
This is a hands-on position suited to a skilled operator with strong plant experience and a safety-first mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Plant & Machinery Operations
Mobilise and demobilise plant and machinery to and from site
Operate RRV (Rail Road Vehicle-mounted machinery)
Operate excavators with specialist attachments including grapple saw, mulching head, and flail
Operate tracked excavators and chippers (including rail-mounted systems)
Carry out tree felling operations using machinery
Transport timber and woodchip to designated locations
Carry out general groundwork activities including timber processing
Set up machinery for safe and efficient operation
Assist with site setup and operational readiness
Perform routine checks and maintenance on machinery and equipment
Troubleshoot operational issues and report faults where required
Maintain cleanliness of machinery and work areas
Follow reporting, recordkeeping, and quality control procedures
Ensure all work meets operational and safety standards
Comply with all company and statutory health & safety regulations
Follow site safety procedures and instructions at all times
Report hazards, incidents, or issues to the Crew Leader/Supervisor
Candidate Requirements
CSCS Machine Operation tickets (360 Excavator, Teleporter) essential
RRVO (Railway Road Vehicle Operator) certification required or willingness to obtain
Full clean driving licence essential
HGV Licence Category C or CE an advantage
Previous experience operating heavy plant in arboriculture, forestry, or similar environments
Strong understanding of machinery operation and site safety
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
Comfortable working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to work day and night shifts (seasonal winter work)

16-inch rail/tracked chipper (excavator-fed)
16-ton tracked excavator with grapple saw
3-ton excavator with rotating grapple
