Recruitment and Friends of MSF Engagement Internship at Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Southern Africa

About Us

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Southern Africa is a vital part of a global network of compassionate professionals dedicated to medical humanitarian work. Guided by medical ethics and a shared commitment to humanity, our teams—both small and large—deliver critical healthcare to people affected by conflict, disasters, epidemics, and exclusion from medical services. Operating in over 70 countries, MSF’s doctors, nurses, logisticians, and specialists not only provide care but also bear witness to the challenges faced by communities, raising awareness and advocating for change to address crises and healthcare inequities.

Based in Johannesburg with an office in Cape Town, MSF Southern Africa serves as a dynamic hub for recruitment, communications, and operational support. Governed by the MSF Southern Africa Association, with over 300 members from seven regional countries, we are passionate about fostering an inclusive culture where diverse voices thrive. We warmly welcome applications from individuals of all genders, ages, sexual orientations, nationalities, races, religions, abilities, and other diversity characteristics.

The Opportunity: Recruitment and Friends of MSF Engagement Internship

Are you passionate about connecting talented individuals with meaningful humanitarian work?

As a Recruitment and Friends of MSF Engagement Intern at MSF Southern Africa, you’ll support our HR team in field and office recruitment, as well as engaging with university students through the Friends of MSF program. This is an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in recruitment, event coordination, and awareness-raising, while contributing to a globally respected organization that saves lives and speaks out for those in need.

What You’ll Do

  • Support field recruitment: Ensure applications are received and screened promptly, implement selection processes including CV screening, document verification, organizing assessment centers, conducting reference checks, and maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Assist with domestic recruitment: Arrange and organize interview files, handle invitations and bookings, prepare materials for interview days, provide feedback to candidates, screen CVs on platforms, update recruitment trackers, share job adverts via social media and email, and contribute to presentations and reports on recruitment stats.
  • Engage with Friends of MSF: Oversee university societies to raise awareness of MSF’s work among students, coordinate events (planning, approval, and attendance), ensure compliance with MSF principles and MOUs, monitor social media updates, develop working plans with focal points, expand the program to new universities, and create tools to link Friends of MSF networks countrywide.
  • Handle ad-hoc tasks: Support policy updates, guidelines, and other recruitment-related duties, while gaining a better understanding of MSF recruitment policies and government employment regulations.
  • Maintain quality and efficiency: Produce monthly reports, ensure smooth communication with candidates and stakeholders, and uphold high standards in all processes.
