Introduction

Our mining client based near Burgersfort and Steelpoort is seeking a Plant Manager to assume full statutory responsibility for the chrome wash plant under a Section 3.1(a) appointment in terms of the MHSA.

The plant is operated by a principal processing contractor. The successful candidate will ensure contractor compliance, plant optimisation, metallurgical integrity, and cost-effective performance aligned with safety, legal, and commercial objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Fulfil duties as 3.1(a) appointee in compliance with MHSA and applicable legislation
  • Enforce contractor performance against safety, production, recovery and cost KPIs
  • Optimise plant throughput, recovery and product specifications (Foundry, Met, Chem grades)
  • Oversee metallurgical accounting, sampling integrity and reconciliation
  • Control operating costs and contractor claims within approved budgets
  • Ensure alignment between mining forecasts and plant performance
  • Maintain SHEQ compliance and audit readiness
  • Lead performance culture within a contractor-based environment

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • BSc / BEng in Metallurgy, Chemical or Process Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a chrome processing plant
  • At least 3 years in senior supervisory / management role
  • Proven experience managing contractor-operated plants
  • Strong knowledge of chrome wash plants, chrome recovery and plant optimisation
  • Sound understanding of metallurgical accounting and reconciliation
  • Eligible for Section 3.1(a) appointment
  • Valid Certificate of Fitness and Code B driver’s licence
