As we continue to scale, our People & Culture team is expanding to support a growing, mission-driven organization. We're seeking a People Operations Specialist to play a critical role in the day-to-day execution of our People function, with a focus on Payroll, Benefits, and operational excellence. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, people-centered, and energized by managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Fully own end-to-end payroll processing for all colleagues (multi-state, multi-unit, & multi-organization).
  • Process payroll changes, updates, earnings, deductions, garnishments, and off-cycle payments.
  • Review and audit timecards, partner with managers on approvals, and ensure timely submission each pay period.
  • Maintain payroll records, perform regular audits, and troubleshoot payroll discrepancies.
  • Monitor regulatory updates impacting payroll (wage changes, overtime rules, tax updates).

HRIS & Records Management

  • Maintain, audit, and update colleague data within the HRIS to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Manage personnel files in compliance with company policies, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support data audits, form updates, and ongoing HRIS optimization projects.
  • Assist with HR reporting needs, including headcount, turnover, and compliance metrics.

Benefits, Compliance & Operational Excellence

  • Support benefits enrollment, new hire onboarding, and provide daily benefits guidance to colleagues.
  • Ensure ongoing accuracy of EDI feeds and partner with benefits vendors to resolve discrepancies.
  • Track FMLA/leave requests and manage all related communications and documentation.
  • Oversee compliance tasks, including mandatory company training(s), policy acknowledgments, reporting deadlines, and regulatory updates.
  • Manage employment verifications, unemployment claims responses, and workers comp claim submissions.
  • Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for People Operations, including both internal and colleague-facing processes.

What You'll Bring

  • 2 - 4+ years of experience in HR, People Operations, Payroll, or related roles.
  • Strong preference for candidates with Paychex experience (Flex, Time, or Managed Services).
  • Experience with any HRIS platform (Workday, Paychex, ADP, Paylocity, BambooHR, etc.) is required.
  • Working knowledge of payroll processes, benefits administration, employment laws, and HR compliance.
  • High attention to detail, strong follow-through, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • A service-oriented mindset and comfort supporting a distributed workforce.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: The annual base salary range for this position $70,000 - $80,000 USD. Annual base salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and or licensures. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations.
