People Operations Specialist

An international renewable energy provider is rapidly scaling its operations across Southern Africa, with a growing portfolio that includes wind, solar, and battery storage projects. This role supports the People & Culture function during this critical growth phase, focusing on HR administration, employee lifecycle processes, compliance, and site-based support across operations. The People Operations Specialist ensures smooth delivery of people processes while partnering closely with line managers and the broader HR team.

This role is permanent, with hybrid. Travel to CT and site when required.

• Act as the primary HR administrative contact for the Gqeberha office and operational sites.
• Manage the end-to-end employee lifecycle: onboarding, contracts, induction packs, and offboarding.
• Maintain accurate digital employee records and ensure compliance with labour law.
• Assist with IR/ER issues under the guidance of the Senior People Business Partner, including DoEL inspections and grievance handling.
• Liaise with Compensation & Benefits for payroll updates (e.g., terminations, deductions).
• Support leave tracking, attendance, and employee queries on payslips, benefits, etc.
• Coordinate with site managers to ensure documentation and compliance across O&M teams.
• Deliver office-level onboarding, ensure setup with IT and Facilities, and track recruitment approvals.
• Track and support probation reviews, performance documentation, and line manager briefings.
• Support implementation of employee engagement events, feedback initiatives, and wellness drives.
• Travel to operational sites as required (bi-annual) to provide on-the-ground HR support.

• 3–5 years’ experience in HR administration or People Operations within a high-volume environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in HR Management or related discipline.
• Knowledge and practical application of South African labour law.
• Experience with HRIS platforms, preferably Sage VIP or Payspace.
• Proficiency in MS365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Strong documentation and employee records management skills.
• Ability to support site-based teams and respond to operational HR requirements.
• Strong time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in a third South African language is advantageous.
• Previous exposure to the energy sector is beneficial.
