Position Overview
The People Operations Intern will play a key role in supporting the systems and practices that shape the staff experience at PYB. This internship provides hands-on exposure to nonprofit People Operations (HR), with a focus on staff development, performance management, internal communications, and organizational culture.
The intern will collaborate across departments to help strengthen how PYB recruits, develops, supports, and engages its workforce during a critical summer programming period.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Development
- Assist in planning and executing staff trainings, onboarding sessions, and professional development workshops
- Organize and maintain internal learning resources, toolkits, and training materials
- Support the documentation and standardization of onboarding processes and staff development guides
Performance Management
- Support coordination of performance check-ins, evaluations, and feedback cycles
- Maintain and update tracking systems for performance reviews and staff development goals
- Assist in developing tools and resources that support managers in coaching and feedback conversations
Staff Engagement & Culture
- Assist with planning staff engagement initiatives, recognition efforts, and team-building activities
- Support internal communications, including staff updates, announcements, and culture-building efforts
- Collect, organize, and synthesize staff feedback to inform improvements to the employee experience
People Operations Systems & Administration
- Maintain digital filing systems, documentation, and internal workflows
- Support cross-functional coordination related to staffing, onboarding, and internal processes
- Assist with improving operational efficiency through better systems and documentation
Capstone Project
The intern will complete a capstone project focused on improving a People Operations system, resource, or process. Examples may include:
- Developing a staff onboarding toolkit
- Designing a staff engagement or recognition initiative
- Creating performance management resources for managers
The project will culminate in a final presentation and written deliverable
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Business, Psychology, or related field
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Interest in nonprofit work and mission-driven organizations
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
