Job Summary

The People Operations Generalist supports the full employee lifecycle through onboarding, orientation coordination, training support, and providing backup coverage across multiple People Operations functional areas. Under the direction of the Director of Workforce Development, this role plays a key part in ensuring smooth onboarding, strengthening internal training functions, and maintaining efficient PO operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Orientation & Onboarding Coordination

  • Manages and tracks all onboarding steps following the offer stage.
  • Ensures all required onboarding documentation is completed and submitted.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for new hires regarding orientation schedules, instructions, and follow‑up communication.
  • Oversees and facilitates new employee orientation.
  • Coordinates with internal departments to ensure a seamless first‑day and first‑week experience for new hires.

Training & Development Support

  • Partners with team members on program design, delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Assists with scheduling, organizing, and tracking training sessions.
  • Maintains training records and ensures required competencies are documented.
  • Supports special training initiatives and organizational development programs.
  • Provides backup for scheduling external trainings, calendar management, and communications.

Talent Acquisition Backup

  • Serves as backup recruiter, supporting high‑volume requisitions (40+ open roles).
  • Assists with candidate screening, interview scheduling, applicant communication, and job posting management.
  • Supports hiring managers throughout the hiring process and ensures timely follow‑up.

Employee Relations Backup

  • Handles employment‑related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters appropriately.
  • Supports PO team with employee relations activities as needed.
  • Reviews written warnings, final written warnings, and performance improvement plans for accuracy and consistency.
  • Assists with documentation, employee follow‑up, and coordination of ER‑related meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism when managing sensitive matters.

Leave Administration & Benefits Backup

  • Provides backup support for employee leave processing (FMLA, disability, paid family leave).
  • Assists with benefits questions, follow‑up, and employee support.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field; 5 years of HR experience preferred. Will consider equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Interest in working for a mission‑based, non‑profit community health organization.
  • SHRM‑CP or PHR certification a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of PO best practices, employment law fundamentals, and common HR workflows.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities; able to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with employees and leadership.
  • Experience using HRIS and ATS platforms; quick learner with new systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Strong follow‑through, attention to detail, and ability to independently resolve routine issues.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may occasionally stoop, bend, and lift or move up to 25 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
