Description

The Human Resources Director will play a key role in shaping the organization's HR strategy and ensuring the development of a highly effective, inclusive, and engaged workforce. The incumbent will lead and manage all aspects of the HR function, including talent acquisition and retention, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, leave of absences, compliance, learning and development, succession planning, payroll and HR operations. A key focus will be on fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for blind, visually impaired, and sighted employees. The Human Resources Director will work closely with leadership to create a supportive workplace culture that enhances employee satisfaction, and aligns with the organization's mission.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the organization’s HR operations including policies, processes, strategy and team members.
  • Develop and implement HR programs and initiatives that support the organization’s business goals.
  • Advise and counsel leadership on HR related matters.
  • Ensure consistency of practice in the application of Human Resources policies and procedures coupled with maintenance of a compliant employee handbook.
  • Strategically drive the recruitment and onboarding process to attract and select talent, ensuring a positive candidate experience.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop job descriptions and recruitment strategies that emphasize inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Responsible for the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into the organization, including the provision of appropriate training materials and accessible resources. Ensure fair and non-discriminatory hiring practices, and facilitate reasonable accommodations during the hiring process for candidates with disabilities
  • Develop and implement training programs focused on skills development, workplace safety, and inclusivity.
  • Provide ongoing training on accessibility and disability accommodations to ensure all employees, regardless of visual ability, have the support they need to succeed.
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes mutual respect, collaboration, and open communication among blind, visually impaired, and sighted employees.
  • Manage employee relations, ensuring compliance with employment law. Manage and resolve complex, employee relations issues by conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Organize employee engagement activities and initiatives that support morale, teamwork, and retention including service recognition, wellness, learning opportunities, employee volunteering and donations
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment law and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Research, develop, and implement compensation and benefits programs ensuring that they are competitive, equitable, and aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Create and a performance management system that supports regular feedback, goal-setting, and employee development.
  • Work with department managers to identify opportunities for training and advancement.
  • Develop mentorship and career advancement programs tailored to the needs of all employees, promoting professional growth across the workforce.
  • Lead the administration of Worker’s Compensation claims.
  • Manage the administration of Payroll processes.
  • Work with the finance team to ensure that compensation packages comply with relevant laws, industry standards, and the budgetary needs of the organization.
  • Ensure that blind and visually impaired employees have equitable access to benefits, including assistive technology and resources.
  • Plan administrator for Welfare lines of insurance, review and submit required plan filings including 5500’s.
  • Oversee the administration of FMLA, Disability and leaves of absence.
  • Stay current with labor laws and industry best practices, making recommendations for necessary policy updates and adjustments.
  • Promote and reinforce the organization’s mission, values, and commitment to inclusion in all HR initiatives and practices.
  • Foster a culture that ensures that all employees feel respected, valued, and supported.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning efforts to ensure that human resources initiatives align with the organization’s long-term goals and vision.
  • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for the needs of blind and visually impaired individuals in both the workplace and broader society.
  • Engage with community partners to assist with meeting the strategic goals and mission of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or disability services environment. Experience managing HR for diverse teams preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Proven experience leading HR functions and creating a collaborative and positive workplace culture.
  • Deep understanding of disability-related workplace accommodations and relevant legislation (ADA, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, etc.).
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals and stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing HR strategies that support organizational goals.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Familiarity with HR software and tools, as well as assistive technology for employees with visual impairments.
  • Experience with Paycom helpful.
