Human Resources Director

Are you passionate about working with adults in a highly collaborative setting with a strong vision, mission, and history? Jowonio School, which has served as a recognized leader in inclusive pre-school education for over 50 years, is seeking a Human Resources Manager. The successful candidate will embrace the vision, mission, and values of this approximately 100 employee firm and will help create and administer human resource (HR) initiatives that support growth and result in a productive and engaged workforce.

In this role, the Human Resources Manager will develop, implement, and administer all HR policies and procedures. This position will provide leadership, planning, and oversight of all HR programs and ensure that the programs support and reflect the school’s mission and strategic objectives. This position partners closely with school leadership, makes recommendations regarding a broad range of staffing and personnel matters, and executes accordingly.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Talent Acquisition

· Source, interview, and hiring, in conjunction with leadership team, for all open positions

· Onboard/orient all new staff members, in conjunction with leadership team

· Employee Relations

· Create and implement employee relations policies and activities to help increase employees’ engagement, efficacy, and job satisfaction

· Handle investigation and resolution of employee issues, concerns and conflicts.

· Create, implement and manage with stakeholders the disciplinary process, including associate discharge


Payroll and Benefits

· Work with the Finance office and employees to ensure information in the payroll system is accurate and up to date

· Work with school leadership and benefits management company to understand Jowonio’s employee benefits programs and educate employees regarding their options

· Study and assess benefit needs and trends, and work with school leadership and benefits management firm to ensure annual offerings are aligned with employee needs

· Assist employees with enrollment in and access to benefits as needed

· Manage employee leave requests, including providing information about eligibility for short term disability, workers compensation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and/or Paid Family Leave (PFL) benefits as appropriate; and ensure timely provision of all necessary forms and information to benefits carriers


HR administration Compliance

· Ensure all employment practices comply with federal, state and local regulations.

· Maintain confidential employment records including up-to-date personnel records to meet financial, licensing, and regulatory requirements

· Keep job descriptions and Employee Handbook up to date and ensure consistent implementation of policies and procedures

· Make recommendations for changes in programs, processes, and procedures that will have a positive impact on the business


EDUCATION AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Labor Relations or Business

· Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication

· Knowledge of compensation strategy, performance management, employee relations, and talent acquisition, and the ability to apply this information in a manner that is compliant with relevant employment law

· Experience with creating a culture of engagement, collaboration and teamwork

· Capable of compiling and analyzing employment data to guide strategic planning

· Current knowledge of State and Federal employment law, including experience with practical application and interpretation of employment law.

· A demonstrated ability to work independently, provide expertise, and guide internal team members through various human resource initiatives.

· Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.

· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees in the firm, from entry level to leadership, as well as with the Board.

· Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks.

· Problem analysis and resolution at both strategic and functional levels

· Creation of training and development initiatives.

· Ability to motivate via compensation, benefits, and performance goals.

· Experience as a key member of a leadership team.

· HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
