Job Summary 

The Director of Human Resources oversees the day-to-day operations of the HR function, ensuring consistent, compliant, and effective people processes across the organization. This role is responsible for employee relations, HR administration, compliance, and support of managers and staff, while maintaining a positive and well-functioning workplace. 


REPORT TO: CEO 

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full time 

Salary: $150,000 to $170,000 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

HR Operations & Administration 

  • Manage daily HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, employee records, and HR systems 
  • Oversee payroll coordination, benefits administration, and leave management 
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of employee data and HR documentation 

Employee Relations 

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and workplace issues 
  • Conduct investigations and resolve employee relations matters promptly and consistently 
  • Support managers with performance issues, corrective actions, and documentation 
  • Address employee relations matters using culturally responsive and equitable practices across a diverse workforce. 

Policies & Compliance 

  • Maintain and enforce HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations 
  • Coordinate audits, reporting, and required filings related to employment practices 

Talent Processes 

  • Oversee recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes 
  • Support performance management cycles, evaluations, and job descriptions 
  • Support training and professional development activities 

Benefits & Compensation 

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, renewals, and vendor management 
  • Support compensation administration and salary changes in coordination with leadership 
  • Respond to employee questions regarding pay and benefits 

HR Team Management 

  • Supervise HR staff and consultants, providing clear direction and oversight 
  • Manage HR budgets, vendors, and service providers 
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency in HR processes 


Requirements

Qualifications Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field 
  • 7–10 years of progressive HR experience with significant operational responsibility 
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices 
  • Experience handling employee relations and compliance matters 

Preferred 

  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRMCP, SHRMSCP) 
  • Experience in a hands-on HR role within a nonprofit organization
