Introduction

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

The General Manager: Human Capital is responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance and support across all Human Capital functions, including workforce planning, talent management, organisational development, Human Capital policy development, employee relations, learning and development, performance management, employment equity and Human Capital compliance. The role supports multiple business units and partners with executive leadership to ensure Human Capital strategies align with organisational objectives and long-term growth plans.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, mentor and develop the Human Capital, including training team to ensure the effective delivery of all Human Capital functions and achievement of departmental objectives
  • Establish clear performance standards, objectives and development plans for direct reports and ensure ongoing performance management and accountability
  • Drive a culture of excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement and service delivery within the Human Capital function
  • Act as a strategic Human Capital business partner to EXCO, OPCO and business unit leadership teams by developing and executing Human Capital strategies and providing strategic advice to support business growth and organisational effectiveness
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify current and future workforce requirements, organisational capabilities and talent risks, and develop workforce planning strategies to ensure the organisation has the right people, skills and capabilities to achieve its strategic objectives
  • Monitor Human Capital-related matters across the organisation and make recommendations to EXCO and OPCO
  • Ensure that EXCO and OPCO decisions are implemented
  • Develop recruitment, selection, retention, onboarding and employee engagement strategies to attract and retain high-performing employees
  • Drive Human Capital Analytics through the analysis of workforce data, trends and key performance indicators to support informed decision-making and improve organisational performance
  • Develop and implement Talent Management and Succession Planning strategies to attract, identify, develop, retain and advance employees while ensuring leadership continuity across the organisation
  • Drive learning and development, leadership development, organisational development and change management initiatives that support organisational effectiveness and a high-performance culture
  • Develop, implement and maintain Human Capital policies, frameworks, standards and procedures to ensure alignment with organisational objectives, legislative requirements and industry best practices
  • Establish and maintain an effective Human Capital governance framework and ensure policies and procedures are consistently applied across all business units
  • Provide guidance, interpretation and oversight to ensure Human Capital policies are effectively communicated, implemented and regularly reviewed
  • Oversee and continuously improve training programmes, learning material and policy documentation
  • Formulate budgets, departmental objectives and key performance indicators for the Human Capital Department
  • Develop, update and implement business plans, policies, procedures and governance standards for the Human Capital function
  • Scope, design, implement and sustain the Employment Equity Plan, initiatives and commitments
  • Manage all Employment Equity reporting and communication requirements in accordance with applicable legislation
  • Interact with regulatory authorities regarding employment equity, training and Human Capital compliance matters
  • Develop and oversee the Group Reward Strategy, including remuneration structures, incentive schemes, employee benefits and recognition programmes to attract, motivate and retain employees
  • Provide strategic oversight of employee and labour relations matters, ensuring appropriate policies, procedures and practices are consistently applied across the organisation
  • Partner with operational management on disciplinary matters, grievances and workplace conduct, while managing relationships with external labour relations consultants and legal advisors
  • Monitor employee relations trends, risks and emerging issues and provide strategic recommendations to executive management
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labour legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor organisational effectiveness and workforce capability to ensure alignment between Human Capital initiatives and business objectives
  • Evaluate external market trends, economic conditions, legislative developments and workforce trends to ensure the organisation remains competitive and future-focused

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Honours Degree in Human Resource Management is essential - Master's Degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration (MBA) will be advantageous
  • Minimum 10 years' progressive Human Resource Management experience, including at least 5 years in a senior Human Capital leadership role supporting multiple business units, operational divisions and regional structures
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the vision, passion and drive to elevate the Human Capital function, develop organisational capability and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and success of the organisation

Package & Remuneration

R1 400 000 - R1 700 000 (Per Annum)
