JOB TITLE:   Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee Member

LOCATION:   Remote working

REPORTS TO: Chair of the EDI Committee

Salary: Voluntary position


PURPOSE OF ROLE:

 

  • To be part of an effective, constructive and cohesive EDI Advisory Group 
  • To assist BE staff and Advisory Groups to achieve greater equality, diversity and inclusion in the policy, planning, key interventions and external influence 

 ROLE RESPONSIBILITES:

 

GOVERNANCE AND LEADERSHIP

 

  •  Attend and contribute to EDI meetings 
  • Attend any panel meetings to assess cases and support investigations 
  • Provide leadership to promote key developments in pursuit of equality, diversity and inclusion 
  •  Act with integrity and abide by the BE code of conduct  

AGENDA, PAPERS/PACKS AND PRESENTATIONS

 

  • Support the recruitment of and inspire the very best and talented EDI team possible.
  • Set out a scheme of work in conjunction with the Board and CEO, EDI team 
  • Assist in preparing the agenda for EDI meetings and jolting the EDI agenda
  • Work closely with the designated BE staff to ensure resources are effectively prioritised for EDI embedding practice across the organisation and wider game 
  • Ensure that EDI action points are documented and actioned, with appropriate reference to the Main Board for approvals and challenge where required
  • Support a dedicated subcommittee and help chair if required.

 

MEASURING PROGRESS

 

  • Identify what effect the EDI Advisory Group is having on EDI and what is changing across all levels in the game and across stakeholders  
  • Collaborate with other Advisory Groups to promote change 
  • Report annual progress through the BE AGM and annual report 
  • Support BE with recommendations to enact change.

 

Role Requirements

ESSENTIAL

  • Have a working knowledge of the key legislation relating to ED & I
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion as part of a group
  • Identify key issues and trends that may help to promote the game through relevant interventions
  • Ability to meet and work outside of normal working hours
  • Successfully network with key staff and contacts within the NGB and its networks
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently, both in written form and verbally
  • Capacity to handle confidential information sensitively
  • Work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a professional manner as a representative of the Association including ability to participate in case management for abuse and discrimination

DESIRABLE 

  • Access to a resourceful network and organisations that can further assist in EDI
  • Have experience in volunteering roles to help relate to the basketball community roles and challenges in the game
  •  Ability to review and analyse data to assist in making informed decisions 
  • Ability to work strategically to engage under-represented communities
  •  Experience of strategy planning/consultation
  • Good presentation skills
