Shape the conversation. Influence the policy. Create the change.
The BUSY Group is one of Australia's largest and most diverse for-purpose organisations, delivering employment services, education, disability support, and workforce development programs across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and soon, Canada. The BUSY Group exists to make skills, education, and employment accessible to every person so they can create their own world of unbounded possibilities.
What you'll do
You'll build and maintain constructive relationships with government decision-makers at federal, state, and local levels across Australia and New Zealand. You'll develop and implement advocacy strategies that advance our mission and translate complex policy issues into clear, actionable insights for our Executive Team. You'll identify and pursue government funding opportunities, grants, and strategic partnerships, and support the preparation of high-quality tenders and submissions.
Working closely with our programs, communications, and research teams, you'll lead the development of evidence-based policy positions while safeguarding our independence and community-centred values. You'll manage a small team (Government Relations Manager and Government Relations Coordinator) and coordinate our broader government engagement activity, tracking effectiveness and return on investment.
What you'll bring
You're someone with 10+ years of experience in government relations, public affairs, public policy, or advocacy, ideally with exposure to employment services, education, disability, or community services sectors. You have a sophisticated understanding of Australian (and ideally New Zealand) political systems and government processes, and you know how to navigate them with integrity and judgement.
You write clearly and persuasively, whether it's a Ministerial briefing, a policy submission, or a funding proposal. You build relationships that last and you're as comfortable at a Parliamentary Briefing as you are at a sector roundtable. You think strategically, anticipate policy shifts, and know how to turn intelligence into opportunity.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, political science, law, communications, or a related field are required, along with a current Blue Card, National Police Check, and open driver's licence.
What we offer
At BUSY, we back our people with meaningful work and meaningful benefits. You'll have the opportunity to influence policy outcomes that directly affect vulnerable communities, including young people, veterans, people with disability, and people with lived experience of the justice system.
Your package includes salary packaging through our NFP status (reducing your taxable income), flexible work arrangements across Gold Coast and Brisbane, and a leadership team that genuinely values the voice this role brings to the table.
