Job Title: COMMUNITY & EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR   

Shift Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional hours as required by mandatory meetings and/or special event coordination.

Starting Pay:  $72,100.00 ANNUAL

JOB SUMMARY:  The Community & Employee Engagement Coordinator supports the Norfolk Airport Authority’s mission to strengthen its presence and reputation among those in the region, including external stakeholders as well as those within its internal workforce. This is achieved in part through this position coordinating and participating in targeted outreach activities, partnerships, communications, programs and other events that reflect the Authority’s commitment to service and community collaboration. The position also supports a positive workplace culture through the implementation and execution of employee engagement initiatives including but not limited to quarterly and annual recognition events, annual employee outings and award presentations; professional development and training opportunities; and other initiatives that better connect the workforce to the Authority’s guest experience values. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Develop and implement community engagement initiatives that promote the airport’s positive impact and visibility within the region.
  2. Coordinate community events, public tours, and educational outreach programs that foster awareness of airport operations and careers.
  3. Support charitable partnerships, volunteer activities, and community service initiatives that align with the Authority’s values and KPIs that includes but is not limited to Wings for All, Sky’s the Limit, United Way Day of Caring, etc.
  4. Coordinate a comprehensive Employee Recognition Program celebrating exceptional performance, milestones, and contributions to include current programs such as Employee of the Year, Employee of the Quarter and SHero Awards, and others etc.
  5. In conjunction with the Customer Experience Manager and Human Resources, coordinate employee engagement events, appreciation activities, and wellness initiatives that promote teamwork and morale to include the annual wellness fair, holiday celebrations and annual employee outings.
  6. Assist in the development and distribution of internal communications that keep employees informed and engaged in the airport’s mission and guest experience standards.
  7. In coordination with the Customer Experience Manager, lead a committee whose focus is employee and/or community engagement initiatives.
  8. In alignment with Authority KPIs, track and prepare events or program participation reports.
  9. Collaborate with departments, business partners, and community partners to support engagement and outreach goals.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following generally describes the knowledge, skills and abilities required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  1. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences.
  2. Exceptional organizational and project coordination skills with strong attention to detail.
  3. Ability to develop creative engagement strategies and bring new ideas to life.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent design platforms.
  5. Skilled in event planning, coordination, and execution.
  6. Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  7. Knowledge of employee engagement principles, training coordination, and community relations best practices.
  8. Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
  9. Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays to support events or community activities.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field required.
    • Two years of the appropriate type and level of experience will serve as an equivalency to one year of education. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, eight years of relevant experience can be substituted.
  1. Two (2) years of professional experience in community engagement, employee relations, training and development, or event coordination preferred.
  2. Experience in an airport, aviation, public agency, or hospitality setting is desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.
