The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources & Talent Development serves as a key leader in driving the credit union’s team strategy and fostering a culture of engagement, growth, and excellence.

This role provides strategic oversight and direction for all areas of human resources, including talent acquisition, learning and development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.

The AVP partners closely with leaders across the credit union to attract, develop, and retain a high-performing and motivated workforce that reflects and supports the credit union’s vision, and values.

The ideal candidate brings strong strategic organizational development and HR expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine passion for developing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Strategic HR Leadership: Lead initiatives that enhance leadership capability, workforce engagement, and organizational effectiveness across all departments.
  • Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding: Oversee full-cycle recruitment strategies and employer branding to attract, hire, and retain top talent at all levels.
  • Learning & Leadership Development: Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive learning, leadership, and development programs to support team growth and succession planning.
  • Succession Planning & Workforce Analytics: Maintain a succession framework for key roles, analyze workforce trends, forecast staffing needs.
  • HR Operations Oversight: Manage day-to-day HR functions including employee relations, compensation, benefits, HRIS administration, and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Policy Governance & Compliance: Ensure HR policies, procedures, and programs are current, legally compliant, and effectively communicated throughout the organization.
  • Performance Management & Coaching: Provide guidance and coaching to leaders on performance management, change management, and talent development strategies.
  • Organizational Culture & Engagement: Lead initiatives to strengthen organizational culture, team engagement, internal communications, and overall team alignment.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making & Reporting: Develop and monitor HR metrics and dashboards, prepare executive reports, and use data insights to inform strategic HR decisions and improve organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, ideally in financial services or credit unions, with demonstrated success leading HR functions such as recruiting, learning and development, and HR operations.

HR certification is strongly preferred (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP).

Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements, with proven ability to maintain policy adherence across the organization.

Proficiency with HRIS platforms (ADP preferred), workforce analytics, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and PowerPoint), coupled with strong relationship-building and influence skills to drive organizational change.
