We’re seeking a Regional Human Resources (HR) Director who brings both strategic insight and operational excellence, someone who can balance data-driven decision-making with a deep understanding of people. Coverage Areas: In this role, you’ll provide Regional HR support to our West Region U.S. locations such as California, Arizona, and Nevada. Must have the flexibility to scale up as needed with a global mindset as part of our nationwide team. 


MUST RESIDE IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. 


What You Will Bring:  

  • California residency (required)  

  • CA SHRM Law certification preferred 

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a regional or multi-site leadership capacity 

  • Strong presentation and communication skills 

  • Proven conflict resolution skills—calm under pressure, objective in approach 

  • Experience across all HR functional areas:  Employee Relations, California Employment Law, Compliance, Risk Management, HR Operations, Talent Management  

  • Hands-on with HR tech: HRIS, ATS, payroll systems 

  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to influence through metrics 

  • A confident, adaptable presence—able to navigate complex situations with professionalism and poise 

  • Emotional intelligence and resilience—you lead with empathy, but stay grounded and solution-focused 

  • A dynamic communication style—clear, compelling, and able to connect with diverse audiences

Qualifications

What You Will Be Doing:  
(Includes, but not limited to)  

Strategic Leadership 

  • Partner with leaders at all levels—including regional, executive, and site-based program leadership—to align HR strategies with business objectives 

  • Lead regional HR initiatives that reflect Bristol’s mission and Core Values 

  • Provide guidance on compensation, benefits, and performance management practices 

  • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Director, Payroll Director, and Benefits Manager to ensure seamless execution across functions 

  • Provide direct leadership and guidance to the HR Generalist or HR Advisor assigned to your region 

Talent & Workforce Management 

  • Forecast staffing needs and support recruitment strategies 

  • Identify high-potential talent and support succession planning 

  • Approve status changes, transfers, and significant staffing updates 

Compensation & Benefits Oversight 

  • Review, approve, and make recommendations on compensation requests including promotions, demotions, market adjustments, and merit increases 

  • Assist locations in gathering competitive compensation data from the local healthcare market 

  • Partner with payroll and benefits teams to ensure accurate and timely administration 

Employee Relations & Engagement 

  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues, including EEOC and compliance-related matters 

  • Approve discharge requests and ensure fair, objective handling of disciplinary actions 

  • Champion employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs across the region 

Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws—especially California-specific regulations 

  • Maintain and update HR policies to reflect regulatory changes and best practices 

Data & Analytics 

  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends using HRIS and talent management systems 

  • Use data to tell compelling stories, influence decisions, recommend creative solutions, take action and drive continuous improvement 

Budget & Operational Management 

  • Develop and manage the HR department budget for your region 

  • Monitor expenses and provide insights on market trends and cost drivers 

Team Development 

  • Facilitate training, certification, and professional development for HR team members 

  • Promote a culture of learning, accountability, and collaboration 

 

Attributes That Make You a Good Fit for This Role:  

  • Expert-level knowledge of California employment law, with the ability to interpret, apply, and advise on complex regulatory requirements confidently 

  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach 

  • Expert in delivering compelling presentations and leveraging storytelling techniques to engage and influence your target audience  

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced environments 

  • High emotional intelligence with a balanced, assertive communication style 

  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and data analytics tools 

 

Your Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (master’s preferred) 

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a regional or multi-site leadership capacity 

  • Deep knowledge of California employment law; CA SHRM Law Certification strongly preferred 

  • Proven ability to present executive leadership and influence decision-making 

  • Strong conflict resolution, coaching, and interpersonal skills 

  • Resilient and empathetic leadership style; able to navigate sensitive situations with professionalism 

  • Experience in healthcare or hospice industry preferred 

  • Ability to travel up to 25% - 50% for work related activities
