About Brink

Brink exists to have impact in the world - we are a team of psychologists, strategists, designers, creative thinkers and technology optimists who use an approach we call Behavioural Innovation to shape our work and our worldview.

Over the last 7 years, we have been lucky to work on some of the world’s most compelling and important challenges like how might education technology help get every child into school and learning, or how can we fix the global oxygen shortage to stop 700,000 preventable child deaths each year? And we’re fortunate to work with brilliant partners ranging from globally recognised institutions like UK AID, Gates Foundation, UCL and University of Cambridge, to hundreds of small grassroots innovators across Africa, S. Asia and the Middle East.

We have grown a high-performing, global and passionate team of around 30 Brinksters based in 6 countries across Africa, Europe and the UK, and have ambitious plans for the coming years to scale our reach and impact. We have proudly been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 places to work by Escape The City, based on our progressive and equitable policies and approaches to all things People.

Role overview

The role of People Operations Coordinator is all about keeping the wheels turning smoothly for our team, so they can be out in the world making dents. You'll support key people processes and help ensure our team experience remains thoughtful, seamless and human. Working closely with our Operations Lead and sitting within our Operations function (which we call the Engine because it powers everything we do at Brink), you’ll be a vital part of delivering day-to-day HR and operations work – from contracts and onboarding to perks, our tools and team rituals. You’ll be joining the team to support us while our People Manager is off on Parenthood leave.

This is a hands-on, detail oriented role, perfect for someone who loves making sure things are well organised and who enjoys the art and science of creating a positive experience for people behind the scenes.

A sample of what you might be doing in this role:

  • Supporting our People processes: You’ll help keep our people operations organised and running well by drafting contracts and letters, processing employment changes, supporting onboarding and offboarding, and looking after freelance agreements. You may also support on sensitive matters such as managing leavers, handling redundancies, and guiding managers through performance improvement processes (PIPs).
  • Managing our hiring process: You’ll lead the coordination of our hiring activities by ensuring job specs are ready to go, posting ads on our ATS (Breezy), reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, and supporting hiring teams throughout the process.
  • Keeping Brinksters happy and supported: You’ll help review data from our quarterly people survey, identifying trends and insights to play back to the team. You may also support in reviewing our people policies to ensure they’re in line with our values and UK law requirements.
  • Helping with anniversary reviews: You’ll help us stay organised around anniversary reviews, from coordinating forms and feedback, to keeping our managers on track for their meeting with Brinksters.
  • Contributing to company culture: You’ll help coordinate team rituals and internal meetings, support planning retreats or offsites.

What we’re looking for:

  • You're available for up to 10 days a month for six months with strong potential to extend.
  • Proven experience in a UK people or ops role, preferably within a start-up or other fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • You’re efficient, friendly, and proactive – someone who loves getting things done and doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves.
  • You enjoy making processes more human, clear and effective – with an eye for the details that matter.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Tool savvy: familiar with Google Workspace, Slack and Notion in particular. Ideally familiar with HR / hiring tools also.
  • Experience working in a remote or globally distributed team.
  • Able to start ASAP.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with teams across the UK, Europe and Africa.

For everyone that joins Brink, we look for these interpersonal skills (being a ‘Brinkster’):

  • Growth mindset: keen and eager to experiment and learn, comfortable with not knowing all the answers yet and happy to let stuff go when it doesn’t quite hit the mark
  • Is ‘interoperable’: quickly establishes rapport with all kinds of people, able to inspire, engage, and connect with individuals at all levels.
  • Enjoys ‘making others shine': Brink is a low-ego zone that thrives on making our colleagues, clients and collaborators shine
  • Self-starter: proactive, can 'get on with it', has a sense of agency and a point of view

How we work:

  • A team of around 30 that genuinely enjoy spending time together, online and in person where possible
  • Remote-first approach
  • Flexible working hours and autonomy; we work at pace but you take full ownership over how you get your work done

  3. What’s one project you’re most proud of from your prior work experiences?

You are encouraged to be as creative as you are comfortable with and choose any structure or layout to present your information, as long as you keep it under 50mb. We don’t want you spending too long on this, life is short. We would suggest spending no more than 1.5 hours of your precious free time on all questions combined.
