People & Culture Advisor

The Opportunity

Downer’s Energy & Utilities business is seeking a People & Culture Advisor to join our team in New Zealand. In this role, you will provide trusted advice and coaching to operational leaders and employees on all Downer people processes and policies. You’ll respond tactically to day-to-day HR and employee relations issues, enabling the business to meet its strategic objectives.

Please note, this opportunity is a part time position offering 20 hours per week. We are open to candidates based in Christchurch or Auckland.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who can build strong relationships and deliver practical HR solutions. Key requirements include:

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related discipline (desirable).
• 2–5 years’ experience in a similar role within communications, infrastructure, utilities, or construction.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.
• Knowledge of Modern Awards, NES, and relevant workplace legislation.
• Experience in ER/IR matters, including working with employee representatives and trade unions.
• Ability to manage HR processes, produce workforce metrics, and navigate HR systems.
• A proactive approach to change management and culture initiatives.
