You will own day-to-day People Operations for Fruitist’s U.S. workforce. Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll be a hands-on practitioner across payroll, benefits, HRIS, compliance, and employee relations—building reliable, compliant, and scalable processes across our U.S. operations.

This role is based in our Century City HQ; with a hybrid schedule in office three days per week. Relocation will not be available, so candidates must be within commuting distance.

What You’ll Do

  • People Operations Leadership: Run core HR activities for U.S. employees end-to-end: onboarding, lifecycle changes, leaves, offboarding, and records.

  • Payroll & Benefits Administration: Oversee multi-state (with deep CA) payroll execution, taxes, garnishments, and GL files; manage benefits enrollment, eligibility, and vendor/broker coordination.

  • Compliance & Policy Governance: Drive compliance with federal and state programs (FLSA, FMLA/CFRA, PDL, COBRA, I-9/E-Verify, pay transparency); maintain policies, audits, and documentation.

  • California Labor Law Expertise: Serve as the internal authority on CA wage/hour, meal/rest, reimbursements, sick leave, final pay, and local ordinances; translate requirements into practical SOPs.

  • HRIS Ownership (Workday required; Rippling preferred): Administer Workday HCM (security, roles, workflows, reporting); improve data integrity and automation. Leverage Rippling if/where used for payroll or device/identity integrations.

  • Employee Relations & Manager Enablement: Support investigations, documentation, and corrective actions; coach managers on performance, documentation, and leave processes.

  • Analytics & Operations Excellence: Build dashboards for headcount, turnover, compensation changes, and payroll variance; create SOPs and SLAs that raise accuracy and speed.

  • Recruiting & Hiring Support: Support hiring managers with job postings, offer letters, and onboarding.

What You’ll Need

  • Experience: 7–10 years in People Operations/HR with U.S. multi-state scope; proven ownership of payroll, benefits, HRIS, and compliance.

  • HRIS: Workday hands-on configuration and reporting required; Rippling experience preferred.

  • Payroll & Benefits: Strong execution and controls mindset; comfortable with reconciliations, audits, and vendor management.

  • CA Labor Law Depth: Practical, up-to-date command of California requirements and local ordinances; converts rules into scalable processes.

  • Judgment & Communication: Clear advisor to leaders; strong documentation, confidentiality, and follow-through.

  • Mindset: Self-driven, proactive, detail-accurate, and service-oriented; thrives in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment.
