The Lawyer Talent Development Manager at Hunton Andrews Kurth plays a strategic, hands-on role in shaping the careers of our non-partner lawyers and supporting the firm’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and client service. This position serves as a trusted advisor and resource for lawyers on one or more of the firm’s business practice teams (Litigation, Corporate, Capital Finance & Real Estate, Administrative Law, Tax & ERISA, Labor & Employment, and Energy & Infrastructure), focusing on all stages of their careers and overseeing the full cycle of talent development—including onboarding, integration, performance management, performance feedback, training, mentoring, sponsorship, career advancement and career transitions.

This highly collaborative position will partner with key firm and team/practice leaders to design, implement, and refine programs that foster professional growth, enhance team performance, and ensure alignment with our strategic business objectives. The Lawyer Talent Development Manager advocates for best practices and helps drive a collaborative culture of continuous learning and accountability.

The Lawyer Talent Development Manager will be a member of our Lawyer Recruiting & Development Team and will report to the Chief Lawyer Recruiting & Development Partner.

Collaboration, Partnership & Committee Engagement
• Works closely with firm and team/practice leadership, including the Chief Lawyer Recruiting & Development Partner, Senior Lawyer Resources Manager, Compensation Committee, Senior Lawyer Professional Development Manager, the Talent Committee and team/practice leadership, on all aspects of non-partner lawyer development.
• Collaborates, and Interacts regularly, with team/practice lawyers and professional staff to gain a deep understanding of the team/practice and firm and team/practice strategic goals.
• Collaborates across the firm to build relations and gain deep understanding of the firm’s resources, policies and practices.
• Partners with firm and team/practice leadership to set priorities, conduct needs analyses, and establish programming.
• Collaborates and engages proactively with team/practice lawyers and professional staff and with other members of Lawyer Recruiting & Development to understand lawyer developmental needs, identify resources to support needs and implement development plans to facilitate growth.
• Serves as a member of the Talent Committee.
• Collaborates with other members of Lawyer Recruiting & Development and the Talent Committee, including, developing best practices, facilitating meetings, conducting market research, and managing budget and sponsorship requests.

Performance, Program & Professional Development Management
• In collaboration with the Talent Committee, develops, manages, and tracks team/practice development plans, mentoring, sponsorship and coaching.
• Facilitates orientations, onboarding, integration programs, and, in collaboration with the Senior Lawyer Professional Development Manager, substantive team/practice skills training for new and current team/practice members.
• In collaboration with the Talent Committee and other members of Lawyer Recruiting & Development, oversees the non-partner lawyer evaluation and feedback program, ensuring the successful implementation, completion and documentation of self-evaluations, supervisor reviews, and lawyer feedback meetings and initiatives, including performance improvement plans.
• Identifies performance issues and development needs; in collaboration with the Talent Committee and the team/practice creates and monitors performance improvement and practice plans, and ensures accountability and feedback.

Communications, Transition Support & Special Projects
• In collaboration with other members of Lawyer Recruiting & Development and the Talent Committee, maintains and updates firm communication channels, including the website and marketing materials.
• In Collaboration with other members of the Talent Committee, develops and shares best practices for lawyer development and training within the team/practices.
• In collaboration with other members of Lawyer Recruiting & Development and the Talent Committee, creates and manages programs to support lawyers transitioning from the firm, including conducting market research, facilitating networking opportunities, managing relationships with outplacement providers and facilitating transition discussions.

Qualifications:
Education: Juris Doctorate required.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects or processes required, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or other client relationship-based organization. BigLaw legal practice experience strongly preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications required.
Other Qualifications: Flexibility to travel and compliance with Firm in-office policy are required. Availability and willingness to work long hours as needed to meet critical deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications. Strong commitment to client service excellence and teamwork. Must possess the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism. Must act as catalyst for change, drive and own results. Creative and innovative, with strong leadership, time management and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills (oral, written and listening) and ability to collaborate effectively with professionals at all levels and across departments, teams/practices and offices. Sound judgment and flexibility. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed to process and read extensive written communications. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. The expected salary range for New York City based employees is $149,800 to $238,800, though salaries for employees based outside of New York City may differ. Beyond an employment candidate’s physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.

The expected salary range for Washington, DC based employees is $130,100 to $207,900, though salaries for employees based outside of New York City may differ. Beyond an employment candidate’s physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
