Job Title: Human Resources Manager - People & Culture

Location: Canada – Farm & Greenhouse Operations
Reports To: CEO

Position Overview

The Human Resources Manager (People & Culture) leads all human resources activities across our farm and greenhouse operations. This role supports both the day-to-day needs of a diverse workforce and the long-term health of our workplace by balancing strong HR fundamentals with an active focus on people, communication, and culture.

Working closely with leadership and frontline supervisors, the HR Manager helps ensure employees are treated fairly, feel supported in their work, and understand expectations, while ensuring the organization remains compliant, organized, and well-prepared for seasonal and business demands.

Role Scope

  • Set and execute the organization’s HR strategy, aligned with business goals
  • Advise the CEO and leadership team on workforce planning, culture, and organizational design
  • Oversee core HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance
  • Balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational execution, reflecting the needs of a mid-sized organization
  • This is the most senior HR role in the company and carries full ownership of the HR function

Key Responsibilities in Detail

Recruitment & Workforce Planning

  • Plan and manage recruitment for permanent, temporary, and seasonal employees.
  • Coordinate hiring, onboarding, and orientation processes across farm, greenhouse, and administrative roles.
  • Support workforce planning to ensure staffing levels align with production schedules and peak seasons.

Employee Relations & Culture

  • Act as a trusted, approachable point of contact for employee questions and concerns.
  • Address workplace issues, concerns, and conflicts thoughtfully and consistently.
  • Support a respectful, safe, and positive work environment where employees feel heard and valued.
  • Work with leaders to reinforce company values through everyday people practices.

Performance & People Development

  • Support performance review processes and employee feedback conversations.
  • Coach managers and supervisors on performance expectations, communication, and employee development.
  • Assist with managing underperformance in a fair, clear, and constructive manner.

Training & Development

  • Coordinate onboarding, job training, and required safety training.
  • Support leadership and supervisory skill development as the organization grows.
  • Help identify training needs that support both individual growth and operational success.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee wage administration, pay structure, and employee benefits.
  • Ensure compensation practices are competitive, accurate, and compliant with legislation.
  • Maintain employee records related to payroll, benefits, and leaves.

Compliance & Policy Management

  • Ensure compliance with Canadian and provincial employment standards, occupational health and safety requirements, and human rights legislation.
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee documentation.
  • Support audits, inspections, and reporting requirements as needed.

Health & Safety Support

  • Collaborate with operations to promote safe work practices across farm and greenhouse settings.
  • Support incident reporting, return-to-work planning, and safety training.
  • Reinforce a culture where safety is a shared responsibility.

HR Leadership & Support

  • Provide guidance and support to HR team members where applicable.
  • Partner with leadership to continuously improve people processes and workplace practices.

Skills & Competencies

  • Clear, respectful communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgement and practical decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail across multiple HR functions.
  • Solid knowledge of employment legislation and workplace compliance.
  • Ability to approach employee issues with fairness, consistency, and discretion.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • HR designation – CHRP / CHRL or working toward, is an asset.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in agriculture, manufacturing, or a seasonal workforce environment is an asset.
  • Experience using HRIS systems and digital HR tools.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office-based work and regular presence in farm and greenhouse operations.
  • Occasional travel for recruitment, training, or meetings.
  • Flexibility may be required during peak seasonal periods.

Compensation

$100,000 - $125,000
