Position Summary
The Human Resources Director serves as the senior human resources leader for the assigned hospital, market, or business unit and is responsible for providing strategic and operational HR leadership in support of organizational goals. The Director partners with executive, operational, and physician leaders to develop and implement workforce strategies that drive employee engagement, talent acquisition, retention, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and a high-performing culture.
The Human Resources Director functions as a trusted advisor to leadership while ensuring alignment with system-wide human resources strategies, policies, and initiatives. The role balances local operational needs with enterprise priorities to deliver consistent, high-quality HR services that support exceptional patient care and organizational performance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serves as the senior HR business partner to executive and operational leadership.
- Develops and implements workforce strategies aligned with organizational priorities and business objectives.
- Provides consultation and coaching to leaders on employee relations, performance management, organizational design, succession planning, and change management.
- Partners with Talent Acquisition to develop recruitment strategies and improve time-to-fill, workforce planning, and hiring outcomes.
- Collaborates with Compensation and Benefits to ensure competitive and equitable total rewards programs.
- Utilizes workforce analytics and HR metrics to identify trends and develop action plans related to turnover, retention, engagement, labor costs, and productivity.
- Leads employee engagement initiatives and supports action planning to improve organizational culture and the employee experience.
- Partners with leaders to identify learning and leadership development opportunities that strengthen organizational capability.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Partners with Employee Relations and Legal on complex employee issues, investigations, corrective action, and risk mitigation.
- Supports organizational restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives as needed.
- Develops, mentors, and evaluates assigned HR staff while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Participates in leadership meetings, committees, and organizational planning activities.
- Serves as an ambassador for the organization's mission, vision, and values.
Position Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field required.
- Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Organizational Development, or a related field preferred.
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) required
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience.
- Minimum of 7 years leading HR professionals or teams.
- Experience supporting executive leaders in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in employee relations, talent management, organizational development, workforce planning, and change management.
- Experience working within a complex or matrixed healthcare system preferred.
