Human Resources Director

The HR Director is a key member of the Human Resources team, responsible for leading strategic and long-term HR initiatives across all facilities. This role provides oversight and guidance to HR Business Partners and the HR Compliance & Strategic Partner ensuring consistent application of policies and alignment with business goals. The HR Director partners closely with the COO on organizational planning, and overall long term initiatives. The HR Director plays a critical role in shaping the future of the company's HR function by balancing strategic leadership with operational support.


Your role in caring for our plants:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Partner directly with the COO to support workforce planning, budgeting, organizational development, and strategic decision-making across all facilities.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the HR Business Partners and the HR Compliance & Strategy Partner, ensuring alignment, consistency, and accountability across all HR functions.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and resource to plant leadership, helping to address workforce challenges, talent development, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Support the HR Compliance & Strategy Partner in managing compliance activities, including policy updates, handbook policy updates, internal audits, employee relations investigations, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure that all HR practices are consistent with federal, state, and local laws, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Serve as backup administrator for payroll processing and benefits administration, ensuring continuity and accuracy in all critical HR operations.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend enhanced employee benefit offerings, working with vendors and internal stakeholders to align plans with employee needs and organizational goals.
  • Lead the development and implementation of HR policies, programs, and procedures in collaboration with the HR Compliance team and site leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team and the COO on HR budget planning, including headcount forecasting, compensation planning, and benefits cost analysis.
  • Provide direct support or coaching for complex employee relations issues and serve as an escalation point for sensitive or high-impact HR matters.
  • Complete special projects and executive-level initiatives as assigned by the COO.
  • Provide direct HR site support during periods of HRBP leave or absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the HR department and organizational goals.

Qualifications we ask you to have:

  • For legal reasons, all employees need to be at least 21 years of age.
  • You will be asked to pass a Federal and State criminal history background check.
  • We ask that you have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or Communications
  • We ask that you have at a minimum of fifteen (15) years of human resources experience.
  • We ask that you have a minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience.
  • We ask that you have a minimum of eight (8) years in an HR leadership role, preferably in a multi-site or manufacturing environment.
  • We ask that you have experience with payroll and benefits processes.
  • We ask that you have experience with HRIS systems.
  • We ask that you are comfortable and proficient utilizing a ATS and other recruitment tools.
  • We ask that you are proficient in Microsoft Excell.

Addition skills which will help you excel in your role:

  • Ability and willingness to learn about different positions within the company.
  • Good understanding and experience with HR tools such as ATS and HRIS.
  • Ability to conduct different types of interviews.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A working knowledge of employment law and legislation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to foster collaboration, be a team player, though also independent and self-motivated.
  • Coachable and can take full ownership of personal development, regularly soliciting feedback from teammates including those supervising, colleagues, and supervisor/s.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in a high production environment!
  • Comply with all HR policies including confidentiality and non-disclosure.
  • Strong work ethic, integrity and desire to be accountable, transparent and proactive.

Work Schedule/Location:

This position is on-site a minimum of four (4) days per week split between five (5) facilities (Phyto Retail, Phyto Cultivation, MCP OPCO, MCP Processing and MCP Retail). In addition, we may require the individual to work outside normal business hours depending on operational demands. This role is an on call position should there be an on-site employee emergency.
