Position Description



The Director of Human Resources serves as a senior member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all human resources functions for the Public Defender's Office. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; advances equitable and inclusive workplace practices; and supports the recruitment, development, and retention of a highly skilled workforce dedicated to indigent defense.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive human resource strategies aligned with the mission, values, and operational goals of the Public Defender's Office.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Public Defender and executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, employee relations, and risk management.
  • Oversee human recourses policies, procedures, and practices to ensure consistency, compliance, and best practices.
  • Ensure hiring practices are equitable, inclusive, and compliant with applicable civil service rules, county policies, and employment laws.
  • Partner with leadership to assess staffing needs, succession planning, and workforce development.
  • Supervise employee relations matters, including discipline, grievances, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Provide guidance on leave administration, accommodations, and benefits-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate personnel records and human resources data systems.
  • Support initiatives that promote employee wellness, engagement, and retention.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data integrity at all times.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years human resources experience.

Preferences

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • SHRM-CP.

  • Regular Full-time

  • Hours will be discussed during departmental interview.


Salary:

  • Depends on Qualifications

  • Based on 26 pay periods



    Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
