Purpose –

The Director of Talent Development leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of company-wide talent development strategies that support a skilled, safe, and high-performing workforce across all operations. This role is responsible for building programs that attract, develop, and retain team members in both field and our internal units, ensuring alignment with our long-term business objectives. This Director partners closely with senior executives, business leadership, and HR business partners to effectively enhance workforce capabilities, succession planning, and employee engagement across all levels of the organization.



Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive talent development strategy aligned with LPX Group business goals, culture, and values.
  • Partners with senior leadership to identify key talent gaps and future workforce needs.
  • Leads the implementation of leadership development, technical training, succession planning, and engagement initiatives including engagement surveys.
  • Manages and directions the delivery of internal programs including Advancing Leaders, Leadership Development Program (LDP), Predictive Index (PI).
  • Manages an Occupational Training Manager to ensure proper scheduling, training delivery, tracking through a companywide LMS.
  • Establishes metrics and reporting to evaluate program impact, ROI, and business outcomes.
  • Oversee design and delivery of training programs, including people leadership skills, compliance (e.g., harassment, discrimination, reasonable suspicion), project management and job progression.
  • Designs structured career roadways and development plans for critical roles (e.g., foremen, superintendents, project engineers, and estimators).
  • Coordinates apprenticeship and internship programs in partnership with trade schools, high schools, universities, and career fairs.
  • Manages Learning Management System (LMS) implementation, administration, and compliance tracking for all training activities.
  • Facilitates succession planning and high-potential identification for key leadership and technical positions.
  • Designs leadership development experiences, coaching programs, and mentoring frameworks to strengthen bench strength.
  • Partners with HR and Operations to embed a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Develops recognition, engagement, and retention initiatives to reduce turnover and improve morale across field and office teams.
  • Promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion within training and development programs.
  • Collaborates with Operations and Safety leaders to align development programs with operational and compliance requirements.
  • Manages vendor relationships, training budgets, and external partnerships to deliver high-quality learning solutions.
  • Stays informed of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes impacting workforce development in construction.
  • Performs additional duties assigned by the CPO.

Skills and Abilities –

  • Proficient in learning technology platforms (LMS), analytics, and modern training delivery methods (e-learning, blended learning, etc.).
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of construction operations and workforce dynamics.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills across diverse employee groups.
  • Ability to translate strategic goals into actionable programs and measurable results.
  • Strong project management and budgeting capabilities.
  • Acts as a proactive change agent for the company.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive HR or talent development experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, or construction environments desired.
  • Demonstrated success designing and implementing enterprise-wide learning, leadership, and workforce development programs.

 

Work Environment –

  • Office and field environments as required.
  • Occasional travel to job sites, training locations, and partner institutions (up to 25%).
