Peninsula Community Legal Centre is recruiting for a Community Engagement & Education Officer (3 days pw).
Peninsula Community Legal Centre (PCLC) is one of 49 community legal centres in Victoria. It operates across six local government area in the south east of Melbourne – Cardinia, Casey, Frankston, Glen Eira, Kingston and Mornington Peninsula. PCLC is headquartered in Frankston and has branch offices in Bentleigh, Cranbourne and Rosebud.
PCLC works to empower and support disadvantaged community members of the South Eastern and Westernport region to use the law and legal system to protect and advance their rights and broaden their awareness of their responsibilities. PCLC offers general legal advice and casework services, specialist family law, tenancy, family violence, rooming house and social work programs, and is active in community legal education and law reform work.
Description
The Community Engagement & Education Officer will work in consultation with the Director, Legal Services to implement the delivery of high quality and effective community engagement and education strategies and approaches that promote awareness of and participation in PCLC’s programs and services.
The Position will design and deliver the Centre’s community legal education services as well as work alongside the Partnership & Development Manager to identify and facilitate collaborative partnerships that support the Centres strategy to improve access and equity in our community.
Key Accountability Area
Identify and facilitate collaborative partnerships between the Centre, government and community organisations to enhance the representation of legal issues for the Centres client base
Participate in the design, delivery, promotion and evaluation of the Centre’s community legal education activities, including workshops on a range of legal topics
Explore, design and implement a broad range of educative tools to deliver inclusive community education to the Centres broad and diverse community members.
Work closely with the Centres legal practice and communications staff to prepare and distribute media releases, participate in interviews and develop and strengthen networks with relevant media outlets.
Participate and contribute to the Centre’s Reconciliation Action Plan’s engagement activities.
Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant information, resources and referral options for participants of the Centre’s community legal education activities
Contribute to the Centre’s capacity to deliver its Strategic and Operational Plan strategies
Support and respond to community issues utilising community engagement and project management strategies
Provide advice and make recommendations to management on the development and implementation of effective and high -quality community engagement
Promote the Centre and its work with contributions to the Centres, internal and external communications such as newsletters and website
Provide written reports and activities data as appropriate
Work within organisational policies and procedures
Undertake other duties as required within each person’s scope and abilities
Skills And Experiences
Selection Criteria
Tertiary qualifications or experience in law, community development, social sciences or related discipline.
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to social justice principles, understanding of the legal assistance sector and a commitment to PCLC ‘s vision and values
Excellent communication and facilitation skills with ability to use those skills to communicate with a range of audiences with diverse communication styles
Proven track record of building collaborative relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated skills and experience in the delivery of community education, community development and project development
Proven ability to work within limited supervision, manage competing priorities and find creative solutions to problems
Demonstrated ability to use a range of IT systems and digital tools effectively, including document creation, online research, legal information systems, case management databases and presentation technology to support community legal education.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team.
