The Role:
The Service Area Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) leads the HR function across an assigned service area in Portland, OR, aligning people strategy to operational and clinical priorities. This senior HR leader oversees HR service delivery, directs complex employee and labor relations issues, and serves as a highly trusted advisor to senior executives.
The CHRO anticipates workforce implications of business changes, develops strategic HR actions, and drives enterprise‑aligned outcomes. This role fosters a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability, while mentoring and developing an HR team that delivers seamless support through shared services and Centers of Excellence.
The CHRO plays a pivotal role in shaping organizational design, workforce planning, caregiver experience, culture transformation, and change leadership — all while advancing Providence values and strategic objectives across diverse healthcare environments.
What You'll Do:
- Serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to senior executives across the service area.
- Align HR strategy with system, regional, and ministry goals, ensuring a unified and integrated caregiver experience.
- Partner with shared services and Centers of Excellence to deliver seamless HR support for leaders and caregivers.
- Lead local labor relations strategies; collaborate closely with Labor & Employment Counsel on complex issues.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for HR teams, building high‑performing, mission‑driven talent.
- Guide organizational change initiatives that improve workforce engagement, culture, and operational performance.
- Develop and implement caregiver experience strategies that strengthen recruitment, engagement, and retention.
- Counsel senior leaders on labor relations, workforce risks, organizational strategy, and people implications of business decisions.
- Promote continuous improvement and embed Providence mission and values in all HR processes and leadership actions.
What You'll Bring:
- Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, HR Management, or related field — or equivalent experience
- Master’s Degree in Business, HR Management, or related field (preferred)
- Certifications & Licensure
- Professional HR Certification (SHRM, HRCI, AIHR) (preferred)
- Experience
- 10+ years of progressive HR or related leadership experience
- Healthcare industry experience (preferred)
- Strong experience in labor relations, strategic HR consulting, and organizational transformation
- Skills & Competencies

- Ability to influence and shape organizational strategy
- Demonstrated strong proficiency across core HR generalist functions
