Description

 About the Role

The Friends’ School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Assistant – Access & Inclusion to join our Middle and Senior School teams. This role provides teaching and learning support to students in their day-to-day access & inclusion programs within the School. Working under the direction of classroom and Access & Inclusion teachers, the successful applicant will assist with implementing teaching and learning programs tailored to student needs.

The Learning Assistant will be passionate about supporting students to achieve their full potential, fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

These are ongoing, part-time and full-time positions, with the following options:
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure any child safeguarding concerns are reported through the appropriate mandatory reporting channels and contribute to a child-safe culture where students feel empowered to raise concerns.

  • Support the delivery of classroom and Access & Inclusion programs under the direction of teachers.

  • Provide assistance to students individually, in small groups, or within the whole class, addressing specific or general learning, emotional, and behavioural needs.

  • Work collaboratively with Classroom and Access & Inclusion teachers, as well as other Learning Assistants, across a range of classes and learning areas.

  • Contribute to the implementation of teaching strategies including one-to-one instruction, inquiry, cooperative learning, experiential learning, scaffolding, modelling, and worked examples as appropriate.

  • Assist with general record-keeping and the updating of student notes on school systems under the guidance of a teacher.

  • Undertake other reasonable duties in line with skills and responsibilities of the role as required by teachers.

  • Procure goods within the School purchase order process when required, with authorisation from the relevant budget holder.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certificate III in Educational Support and/or equivalent experience or qualification deemed relevant by the School.
  • Understanding of the 10 National Child Safe Standards.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills with staff, students, and parents.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Competence in supporting classroom management and technical learning needs.
  • Current First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work safely in a school environment and meet the inherent requirements of the role.
  • Alignment with the Purpose & Concerns and ethos of The Friends’ School.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People registration (employment category) and a National Police Check (less than 6 months old).
